Here at Ruby Hooping, one of our favorite things to do is talk about all the wonderful hula hooping benefits we all enjoy as part of this beautiful lifestyle. We asked our Street Team member Stormi Kammer to write us an article about how hula hooping helped her to quit smoking forever! Read on for some serious hoopspiration.
There are many hula hooping benefits I have enjoyed since I began my hooping journey. Weight loss is perhaps the most commonly known benefit from hula hooping, but did you know there are many others as well? Other hula hooping benefits include; more confidence, less anxiety, more energy, less depression, and overall a healthier lifestyle. The biggest of the hula hooping benefits in my life has been, smoking cessation!
Smoking cessation is a very difficult task, especially when done without nicotine replacement. “How does hula hooping help?” you may ask.
Here are some of the ways it helped me:
- Hula hoops keep your hands busy. Any time I was at home and got a craving I would pick up my hoop and practice isolation variations until the craving was gone while at the same time breaking the hand to mouth fixation. Instead of smoke breaks while I am at work I take hoop breaks.
- Another way hula hooping benefits the effort to stop smoking is that hula hooping refocuses your mind as you get into the state of flow. Instead of smoking a cigarette after a meal, have a 5 minute hula hooping session! You will be amazed at how good you feel after you’ve hooped through that intense after meal craving.
- Because one of the greatest huge hula hooping benefits is weight loss, it makes gaining weight from smoking cessation a non-issue. This is a far more powerful tool than deciding you’re going to start hitting up the gym at the same time that you quit smoking. That could actually be setting yourself up for failure bcause it’s just too much pressure. But hula hooping is so fun that it never feels like work, so you won’t be overwhelmed by it. You’ll actually begin to crave it like you used to crave those pesky little cigarettes
Don’t forget that in the process of quitting smoking it is important to set small goals and celebrate those successes! Take the money you would normally spend on smokes and put it in a jar. Set a target date for 30 days smoke free. Once you’ve made it 30 days smoke free take that money and buy a new Ruby hoop to celebrate!
We hope this article has inspired you to pick up your hoop and improve your quality of life today! If you are still in need of a hula hoop to begin your life changing journey, please check out our hoops for beginners!
As always, happy hooping!
