One of the most frequent questions I get from people who see me out at a park with my hula hoops or see me posting videos on my Facebook page is: “Is hula hooping good for you?” The answer is a resounding YES! I asked my brand new sponsored hooper, Alisa Willcox (aka Iris Dragonfly) to write me up an article giving her take on this subject! Read on for some supreme hoopspiration!
Hula hooping has become a rather notable trend over the last several years, but why? Comparable to yoga, hula hooping now has its own strong community, one that uplifts others and helps us all to get healthy and have fun. Hula hoops come in a range of sizes, styles and colors, much like each of us! Hula hooping is indeed good for you, no matter who you are! Old or young, tall or short, large or small, young or old, you can bet that hula hooping is good for you!
Getting healthy is important to many, but some people cannot afford to go to a gym, or may be too shy. Perhaps you have body image issues, or some other challenge that makes it difficult for you to go to a gym. Ruby Hooping offers a wide range of hula hoops that you can use in the comfort and privacy of your home (or at a park with friends!) for a fraction of the price of going to a gym.
Hula hoops don’t see gender, size, shape, age, or race. Who knew a plastic circle could become a friend, a companion, a traveling partner, a geometric shape that expands horizons by crumbling the barriers of judgment and fear! Hula hooping is not only good for you, it will change your life, my friends!
I can testify that hula hooping is good for you.
Since I became a Hula Hooper in 2011, I have accomplished many personal goals I thought were only dreams. Throughout this infinite journey, I have found power within this sacred hoop, by finding my authentic self , loving me for me, and making life-long friends.
I have lost weight, made friends that I call family, performed with a hoop troupe, inspired other people to find their flow, spun fire hoops, found motivation to go on many outdoor adventures with my hoops, begun eating healthier, and am straight up living life to the fullest!
Prior to hooping I was spiraling down the stairs of self-hatred, uncertainty, and had nothing but darkness within. I abused many drugs, was in an abusive relationship, traveling sometimes without a home, with nothing to live for. I had no regard for others’ opinions or feelings. I was numb inside. Realizing I needed to change my lifestyle quickly or accept this would be my death, I decided to return to my mother’s home, become sober, and broke the ties that bound me to harmful ways.
After going through hell and back, I found a hula hoop and found myself. Suddenly I was able to find the good in all things once more, see vibrant colors that were once just shades of gray, as if I could once again see the world through a child’s enchanted eyes.
Before I found hula hooping, I suffered from PTSD which made it hard to leave me house, although I had once been a social butterfly. Hooping has made it possible for me to reignite my social life. It’s also therapy for me when I am suffering from anxiety or really, a wider ange of emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger, boredom or when I need to exercise. In fact, hula hooping is the one exercise that I absolutely love to do and never have to force myself. It has become a sacred routine that I am committed to daily. I have fun learning new trick combinations and training my muscle memory.
If hula hoops came with a warning label, it would say: Hooping may cause happiness, weight loss, sweat, tears, excitement, friendship, spiritual growth and self love.
So, is hula hooping good for you?
IT SURE IS! I encourage you, whoever you are, no matter your age, gender, size or age to check out Ruby Hooping and get started with your own personal Beginner Hoop.
